Good Morning SkedX'ers!
How are you all doing today? Great I Hope! Today I wanted to share with you all some recent statistics published about employee engagement and the millennial generation (Generation Y). In a recent study of 30,000 workers (2, 400 in the U.S.) conducted by Mercer Consulting the results showed two types of employees.
The survey found close to a third of surveyed U.S. employees were considering the possibility of leaving there current employer. The survey also showed younger employees are at risk in the current baby boomer work environment. About 40% of employees between the ages of 25-34 and 44% of employees aged 24 and younger are considering leaving.
The second type of employee is the one organizations should really be concerned about. This group are employees who do not want to leave your organization but do not believe in or support the organization’s mission/values/goals. This group of surveyed U.S. employees makes up 21% or one-fifth of those surveyed. These employees score extremely low for motivation, loyalty, and their willingness to take on greater responsibility.

The survey also showed employees feel they are being undersold at hiring, many employees expressed employers are not following through or offering enough employee benefits. Employees feel they do not have the opportunity to advance in their career and fully develop their skills.
The above information is just another indication of how important and popular employee engagement is currently. It is detrimental to the internals of the organization to have a disengaged and unmotivated workforce, it shows in your service, sales, and overall image as a organization. By engaging your employees and developing a greater relationship with them you can increase communication which in turn increases motivation, retention, and overall performance. To engage Generation Y organizations need to also consider implementing software, current technology, and social media as part of their engagement strategy. By also adding in gamification aspects an organization's environment can be geared towards the younger generation.
