Today I wanted to share with you all some interesting information from the UK regarding a new application launched by Nestle. The new 'Nestle Careers" app is downloadable on only iPhone and Android smartphones for now and is meant to be used as a recruiting tool for potential candidates. Besides job positing's the application is also designed to give users a better understanding of the culture, values, and people of Nestle.
The application also includes Twitter feeds, Google Maps, and Youtube videos designed to attract and recruit potential Nestle candidates. Amanda Jailer, head of recruitment, Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: "Over the next few years, it is expected that the majority of job searches will be done by mobile devices."
I spoke lightly yesterday about the rising amount of technological consumption by the younger generation, and this is a prime example of the influence technology has had on business. By giving users the ability to track potential career opportunities and providing insight into the organizations culture, talent recruiting and retention increases. With this application Nestle can funnel potential candidates and find the right fit for them easier. Originally recruiting shifted from resumes to job postings online but those still lacked substance and did not demonstrate what working for an organization is truly like. Now the shift is from your standard online posting to a portal if you will that engages potential candidates.
As organizations consider developing an online portal of there own they must consider what pieces of technology they wish to implement there portal on and more importantly how to deliver more than just numbers words depicting your organization. To have a truly successful all encompassing "portal", organizations must understand what message they want to send as well as who do they have in mind to use it. Many organizations fail at this and often create a useless app that collects dust and is full of old information.
So like we learned yesterday and well today....the younger generation requires technology in the workplace so they can be more efficient at what they do. They grew up with technology as part of the learning process and its only fitting that they require it in the learning process of working with you. So as you consider using an online portal to recruit staff, consider using a online portal such as SkedX to manage and engage the very same staff.
